Established in 1990, the Urology Department at Sanya Central Hospital is one of the hospital's key disciplines, boasting a skilled and experienced medical team. Currently, there is 1 chief physician, 6 associate chief physicians, and 6 attending physicians, including 2 doctoral graduates and 7 master's graduates. In 2019, Dr. Chen Guoqiang, a chief physician and a leading talent introduced through the "Good Doctor" program in Hainan Province, joined the department. He has launched multiple new technologies and is committed to minimally invasive laparoscopic and endoscopic surgeries. Minimally invasive procedures such as transurethral natural-orifice surgery, laparoscopic surgery, and percutaneous nephrolithotomy have become mainstream, enabling the department to develop rapidly. In 2024, the "Famous Doctor Chen Guoqiang Studio" in Sanya City was successfully approved.

Distinctive Diagnosis and Treatment

The department closely follows the latest developments in urology, focusing on minimally invasive procedures as a breakthrough. It specializes in the treatment of diseases such as urolithiasis, benign prostatic hyperplasia, genitourinary tumors, and other conditions. The department revolves around these key areas and implements various advanced techniques to provide optimal care for patients.

For urinary calculi: Minimally invasive surgeries like percutaneous nephrolithotomy, flexible ureteroscopy lithotripsy, ureteroscopic holmium laser lithotripsy, and laparoscopic pyelolithotomy or renal parenchyma lithotomy are performed. Complemented by extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy, the department treats over 2,500 cases of urinary calculi annually, with more than 1,000 surgical treatments per year. Additionally, stone composition analysis is carried out to provide precise preventive guidance for patients with urinary calculi. Our department's diagnosis, treatment technology, and the number of cases treated for urinary calculi rank among the top in Hainan Province.

For BPH and bladder tumors: We routinely perform various minimally invasive surgeries that are also carried out in top-tier hospitals in China. These include transurethral plasmakinetic resection and enucleation of the prostate, transurethral laser vaporization resection and enucleation of the prostate, with over 300 surgeries per year; as well as transurethral plasmakinetic resection of bladder tumors and laser en-bloc resection of tumors, with nearly 100 surgeries per year.

Opening up a new era of "endoscopic" procedures in minimally invasive surgery: Building upon routine practices such as laparoscopic adrenalectomy, radical nephrectomy, partial nephrectomy for renal tumors, and radical prostatectomy for prostate cancer. In April 2024, our department was the first in Hainan Province to introduce the domestic “Kangduo Robot" surgical system. Complex surgeries such as robot-assisted laparoscopic radical prostatectomy, radical cystectomy, partial nephrectomy, and pyeloplasty have been carried out. So far, nearly 50 such surgeries have been performed, and it is expected that the annual number of robot-assisted surgeries will reach 100. The Urology Department of Sanya Central Hospital has entered the era of robotic minimally invasive precision medicine. By introducing a domestic surgical robot, patients can enjoy precise robotic treatment technology at a lower cost.

In June 2024, Dr. Xiong Guobing, an associate chief physician and a "Good Doctor" in Hainan Province, joined our department. He is proficient in minimally invasive repair surgeries such as laparoscopic ureteral stricture repair and vesicovaginal fistula repair using tongue mucosa, appendix, and bladder flaps. This technology is at a leading level in Hainan Province, bringing hope to patients suffering from long-term ureteral and urethral strictures.

For andrological diseases: An andrology outpatient clinic has been set up. Andrological examination techniques such as erectile function and penile sensitivity testing are available. Andrological surgeries like seminal vesiculoscopy for hematospermia, microscopic varicocele ligation at a low position, and hidden penis lengthening surgery are also performed to benefit male patients.

Meanwhile, urodynamic testing and stone composition analysis are conducted in the outpatient clinic. This provides precise urodynamic assessments for patients with urinary system dysfunction and offers stone composition analysis and preventive guidance for patients with urinary calculi.
