The Oncology Department of Sanya Central Hospital was established in 1992 and is one of the earliest clinical departments in Hainan Province to carry out tumor radiotherapy and chemotherapy. In 1994, it carried out 192Ir afterloading radiotherapy; in 2002, it started tumor interventional therapy; in 2005, it replaced the linear accelerator and carried out precise radiotherapy techniques such as 3-DCRT, X-knife, whole-brain and whole-spinal cord radiotherapy; in 2012, it established the first batch of standardized cancer pain demonstration wards in the province; in 2013, it carried out intracavitary hyperthermic perfusion technology, with more than 120 cases per year. In 2024, it put into use the Elekta Synergy linear accelerator, carrying out techniques such as intensity-modulated conformal radiotherapy, volumetric-modulated arc radiotherapy, and stereotactic radiotherapy. In January 2024, the department was designated as a standardized diagnosis and treatment base of Chongqing University Cancer Hospital, solidifying its role as a leading oncology center in southern Hainan. The department has 2 wards, with 60 designated beds and 68 operational beds. Its team includes 38 professionals: 4 master's degree holders, 2 chief physicians, 4 associate chief physicians, 6 attending physicians, 3 technicians, 2 medical physicists, 1 associate chief nurse, 11 supervisor nurses, 9 senior nurses, and 1 nurse. 16 staff members hold GCP certification. Services offered include radiotherapy, chemotherapy, targeted therapy, immunotherapy, endocrine therapy, interventional therapy, standardized cancer pain management, nutritional support, and tcm oncology treatments, thoracentesis, paracentesis, perfusion chemotherapy, CT/ultrasound-guided biopsies, PICC placement, central venous catheterization, and port implantation. The department serves as a training base for medical students from Hainan Medical University and Hunan University of Medicine and for resident physicians. It has undertaken 6 provincial and 3 municipal research projects, winning the Sanya Science and Technology Innovation Award in 2014 and a national drug registration research project in 2015.
