The Gastroenterology Department is a Class I key discipline in Hainan Province, admitting approximately 4,000 inpatients and treating around 50,000 outpatients annually. It serves as a comprehensive center for the diagnosis, treatment, education, and scientific research of digestive diseases in Hainan. The department currently has 22 physicians and 35 nurses, including 2 senior professional titles, 7 associate senior professional titles, 7 attending physicians, and 6 resident physicians. Among them, there are 1 PhD holder, 12 master’s degree holders, and 1 master’s supervisor. It is the only gastroenterology department in the province with an independent specialized ICU. In addition to standard treatments for common diseases, the department specializes in diagnosing and treating complex and severe digestive disorders, such as inflammatory gastrointestinal diseases, functional gastrointestinal disorders, peptic ulcers, massive gastrointestinal bleeding, acute and chronic pancreatitis, intestinal obstruction, refractory cirrhotic ascites, hepatic coma, hepatic encephalopathy, biliary system diseases, and splenic diseases. The department is also a leader in endoscopic minimally invasive treatments in Hainan. ERCP, cholangioscopy, endoscopic ultrasound-guided fine-needle aspiration (EUS-FNA), artificial liver support system, high-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) for liver and pancreatic tumors
