The Endocrinology Department of Sanya Central Hospital (The Third People's Hospital of Hainan Province) was established in 1999 and is a key discipline in Sanya City. It provides medical services to patients across the entire southern Hainan region. The department adheres to taking "ensuring medical safety, continuously improving medical technology and service capabilities, and building a brand-name discipline" as the core goals of its development. The inpatient department has 52 beds open. The outpatient department has 2 general consultation room, 1 expert consultation room, and 1 specialized disease consultation room, as well as a diabetes nursing outpatient, a diabetic foot dressing-change room, a thyroid puncture room, and an MMC studio (National Standardized Metabolic Management Center).

The department diagnoses and treats a wide range of endocrine and metabolic disorders, including diabetes, thyroid diseases, obesity, gout, gonadal disorders, short stature, pituitary and adrenal diseases, endocrine hypertension, metabolic bone diseases, hypoglycemia, and hypokalemia. It is equipped to perform various endocrine tests. After 20 years of development, the department has established specialized sub-disciplines in diabetic foot care, minimally invasive thyroid diagnosis and treatment, gonadal and growth disorders, and obesity management. It has been recognized as a "National Standardized Metabolic Disease Management Center," an "Outstanding Demonstration Hospital for Multidisciplinary Inpatient Glucose Management," and a "Branch Center of the Chinese Growth and Development Behavioral Medicine Research Center."

The department has 30 medical staff, including 13 doctors and 17 nurses. It is responsible for teaching undergraduate students, postgraduate students, and resident physicians, and has undertaken over 30 research projects and more than 20 clinical drug trials. The department has trained over 10 postgraduate students and published more than 70 papers in SCI-indexed and Chinese core journals.
