The Clinical Nutrition Department of Sanya Central Hospital (The Third People's Hospital of Hainan Province) originated as a nutrition unit established in 2011 and became an independent department in 2018. It operates as a medical technical department. The department currently employs 6 nutrition professionals, including 4 nutrition physicians (2 with master's degrees and 2 with bachelor's degrees), 3 intermediate professional titles, 1 primary professional titles, 1 primary nutrition technician, and 1 supervisor nurse. In 2022, the department was designated as an internship base for the Food Hygiene and Nutrition program of Hunan University of Medicine, making it a leading Clinical Nutrition Department in southern Hainan that integrates medical care and education.
The department adheres to a professional and standardized management model, overseeing clinical nutrition therapy, medical diet preparation, and clinical nutrition education. Its responsibilities include therapeutic diet preparation, enteral and parenteral nutrition support, nutrition consultations, nutritional assessments, outpatient nutrition services, and nutrition health education. The department is committed to advancing the development of clinical nutrition in Hainan, exploring standardized clinical nutrition diagnosis and treatment models, as well as family and community nutrition management. It has been recognized as a designated data collection unit for the National Basic Nutrition Data Project, a "Sentinel Hospital" by the National Clinical Nutrition Quality Control Center, a pilot unit for the construction of the Clinical Nutrition Department, one of Hainan's first "Nutrition and Health Canteens", and a national "Medical Nutrition Weight Loss Teaching Unit for 2025".
Outpatient Services: Nutritional diagnosis and treatment for diseases such as cancer, diabetes, hypertension, kidney disease, and inflammatory bowel disease; maternal and child nutrition consultations, gestational diabetes nutrition management, and home nutrition therapy design for recovering patients; nutritional product consultation and body composition analysis; weight management clinics for obesity and underweight individuals.
