On May 22, the Obstetrics and Gynecology Department of Sanya Central Hospital (The Third People's Hospital of Hainan Province) utilized high-intensity focused ultrasound ablation (HIFU, also known as the "HIFU") to treat patients with uterine fibroids, adenomyosis, and cesarean scar pregnancy. The patients reported no significant discomfort during the procedure, and the ablation results were excellent.

What is HIFU?

HIFU, also known as focused ultrasound ablation, is the English translation of "High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound System." HIFU is a non-invasive, localized physical treatment method for conditions such as uterine fibroids and adenomyosis. It is a surgery-free, bloodless, scarless, non-traumatic, and radiation-free tumor treatment technology. It focuses ultrasound waves from outside the body onto the target area inside the body, generating instant high temperatures that cause coagulative necrosis of the tissue while leaving surrounding tissues and the acoustic pathway unharmed, effectively "removing" lesions from outside the body.

Advantages of HIFU Treatment

The HIFU® focused ultrasound tumor treatment system offers the following advantages for uterine fibroids:

No surgery, no puncture, no bleeding, and minimal pain;

Preserves the uterus without damaging healthy uterine tissue;

Does not affect normal endocrine function in women;

Short treatment time and quick recovery, with patients typically discharged the next day;

Sedation and analgesia ensure patient comfort;

Green treatment with no radiation;

Short post-treatment contraception period, with most patients able to conceive within 3-6 months.

In addition to uterine fibroids, HIFU can treat various benign conditions such as adenomyosis, placental implantation, and cesarean scar pregnancy, as well as malignant solid tumors including primary or metastatic liver cancer, breast cancer, malignant bone tumors, kidney cancer, pancreatic cancer, soft tissue sarcoma, retroperitoneal tumors, pelvic tumors, and bladder cancer.

HIFU® Minimally Invasive Treatment Center

Minimally invasive medicine is a modern medical concept and a trend in medical development. The HIFU® Minimally Invasive Treatment Center at Sanya Central Hospital aligns with this trend, adhering to the principle of "treatment with minimal harm to patients." Through the HIFU Knife® focused ultrasound tumor treatment system, the center provides non-invasive HIFU procedures to more patients, helping them preserve their uterus and benefit from the advantages of non-invasive treatment technology.
